Hello ENT 3003 students! Today I will talk about some of the aspects this course will entitle you to do. At first many of these exercises will seems odd and uncomfortable, nut please reflect on each assignment and look at the bigger picture. Try to look at the Professor Pryor's mindset on why he decided to choose these type of assignments.
1) Some behaviors that I have had to develop are being able to be time efficient and more open to different experiments. There are several assignments per week. This forces you to be able to manage your limited time and have good time management skills. Another behavior is being open to assignments that may seem weird or out of your comfort zone. It is essential to complete every assignment the way its intended to be and no take any short cuts. There are no shortcuts in life.
2) Many times basically every week I leave the assignments to the last minute. This means that I have to complete each assignment in a very limited time limit. The reason why is because I'm taking another class that I have to focus 20 plus hours a week to manage. What has pulled me through is my mindset. I have never failed a class or gotten unsatisfactory grades and I don't intend to do so. I have been given a chance by my mom to make something if my life and I will do so. I do believe I have a tenacious attitude. I have inherited the will to succeed and persevere like my mom has.
3) So here are some tips on how to perform successfully and the achieving the full extent of this class. Number one is START EARLY! It is so important to be attentive on your assignments and to start as early as possible. This will save you time in the future and save the the stress of completing these assignments if something should arise. Number two is try your hardest to complete each assignment to its full extent. Never shortcut anything in life and this same principle applies to these assignments. These assignments are meant to build and hone your skills for the future. Number three is to reflect on everything you do in this class. Professor Pryor has a reason on why he chose these specific assignments. The skills you will develop with these assignments are essential for your future. With these tips, I ensure you will succeeded!

Portmanwho: BronZone
My
portmanwho is BronZone. I got this word from combining the two words
"Lebron" and "zone". This word means being in a state of
complete dominance and being able to preserver and endure through think and
thin. Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavilers have recently faced elimination
for the NBA playoffs. They were down 3-1 against the Golden State Warriors. One
more lose would mean losing the the same team for a second consecutive year.
But thanks to Lebron James getting into his BronZone, he showed the Warriors
and the word why he is referred to as the King and the best player of this
generation. Being in BronZone means being mentally, physically, and emotionally
focused and being able to make split decisions under extreme stress. The end results
it demonstrating superhuman abilities. This may be rather silly but I do believe
that state of mind plays a huge role in any setting. Now look at the result the
Cavilers have been in a BronZone and were able to tie up the series 3-3. Sunday
will be the ultimate test as the Cavaliers will have to face the Warriors in
Oakland (Warriors’ territory), but luckily they have the BronZone mentality.

Reading Reflection No. 1
Week 7 Reading Reflection
You read about an entrepreneur: Steve Jobs
You read about an entrepreneur: Steve Jobs
·
What surprised you the
most? What surprised me the most about Jobs
was is life prior to becoming the CEO of Apple. Steve like many people of that
era were very experimental and open-minded. In the chapter titled “Atari and India, Zen and the Art of Game Design”
it talks about how Jobs did a sole searching trip to India. That was was surprising.
· What about the
entrepreneur did you most admire? What I admire most
from Jobs is his desire to succeed and create new innovations. Although
Jobs has gotten negative feedback on the way he acted as CEO, I think all that was
essential for Apple to thrive ass much as it did even when the company was
about to be destroyed.
· What about the
entrepreneur did you least admire? I think the least thing I liked about Jobs was his attitude when it comes
to his employees. Steve was very demanding and exceeded highly of this
employees in a timely manner. Also I don’t like the fact that Steve Jobs gets
all the credit for Apple when Steve Wozniak was essential if not the most
important figure in the development stage of Apple.
· Did the
entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Steve Jobs definitely did face adversity and failure.
I think the biggest failure he faced was when the Board of Trustees voted to
kick Jobs out of Apple. That’s crazy to think that the man who started this
company was being kicked from it. Apple’s new management seemed to be more of a
failure than before. Steve went on to start a new computer company called NeXT
and also launching Pixar Animation Studios. Apple realized that they needed
Jobs as the CEO, so they acquired NeXT and untimely Jobs went on to become the
CEO again and led the way to new innovations such as the iPod, iPad, and off
course the iPhone.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
Steve was a major perfectionist. He valued
quality over quantity like his other competitors. His products had to be aesthetically
pleasing and able to wow customers with its perfect features. Also Steve was a visionary.
He was able to see the future in a way that he could perfectly guide himself
and his company to success, that is truly amazing
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
“Coming back to America was,
for me, much more of a cultural shock than going to India. The people in the
Indian countryside don’t use their intellect like we do, they use their
intuition instead, and their intuition is far more developed than in the rest
of the world. Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect,
in my opinion. That’s had a big impact on my work. Western rational thought is
not an innate human characteristic; it is learned and is the great achievement
of Western civilization. In the villages of India, they never learned it. They
learned something else, which is in some ways just as valuable but in other
ways is not. That’s the power of intuition and experiential wisdom.”
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what
would you ask? Why?
The two questions I would ask is:
1. What would you suggest (as a formula for
success) that I should do so that someday I can be the next big thing? The
reason why I ask this is because I can be discouraged a lot of times and even
lose hope of the bigger picture. I would like to hear the input of Jobs on what
I should do to avoid these situations or get over these situations.
2. How
should the relationship between you and Steve Wozniak be? Jobs as the marketing
person and entrepreneur and Wozniak as the engineer. The reason why I ask this
is because I think it is essential to know how this relationship between the engineer
and entrepreneur should be to ensure success of a company.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard
work? Do you share that opinion?
I believe Jobs opinion of hard work would be to never settle. By this I
mean that even in times of hardships and ridicule the only thing stopping you
from succeeding is yourself. A person must be willing to never settle and
always strive to success. I share this opinion as I’ve seen it with my mom. Her
desire to see her children make something of themselves outweighs any hardship she
has endured.

Idea Napkin No. 1
You:
I am a foreign born citizen who is trying to have a
comfortable, financially stable life here in the United Sates. I have experienced
my mom go through countless struggles to help my brother and I to succeed. My
ultimate goal it to give back to her like how she unselfishly gave back to us.
My talents, I would say are with technological based equipment. I aspire to
become a computer programmer in the future. Someone who first works for a big
company to develop professional skills and ultimately transfer those skills to my
own business. I am very well oriented with mostly any technology that is thrown
my way. I have developed my debugging skills and thought process skills here in the
University of Florida. My business concept revolves around the use of a mobile
application. This is important as mobile apps are becoming very popular and I
should learn the skills necessary to develop this software. Also the concept of
seeking companies to endorse my application will serve to develop my professional
and communication skills. I have some ideas for other mobile applications I
would like to develop and having this business concept will help with the
learning process.
What are you
offering to customers?
The product that I would be offering is a mobile application
that would serve to help the unmet need of feeling comfortable in one’s living condition.
Many people uncomfortable with their living situations and most of the time
have lengthy contracts that oblige them to stay. My app would help dispel some
of these hardships by offering services to help prevent and solve problems that
cause discomfort.
Who are you
offering it to?
Well my mobile application at first will be tailored to
local college student here in Gainesville. These students will most likely be people
who are not from Gainesville and have moved here because of their attendance to
the University of Florida. To start off I would want to first target residents of the Collier Companies apartment complexes. This is due to the fact that once I
launch the app I would first like to see how it works with this specified
demographic, If successful, then I would invest more time and effort to expand
to all college student here in Gainesville. Some characteristics
that most of the targeted audience will have is discomfort, anger, annoyed,
frustrated, and saddened by their living conditions. The main trait that all
customer will have in common is feeling uncomfortable in their current living
situations
Why do they care?
I believe that customer will care for this app because it is
potentially solving or preventing them from feeling discomfort where they live.
No one is happy living in a place that causes them discomfort, if there is a
potential solution customer will be willing to try. Plus, my plan was to first
try with residents of Collier Company apartment complexes. I would pitch my
idea to the Collier Company in hopes of having them endorse this application.
Once residents see that the application is endorsed by their proper apartment management
they will feel more compelled to try the application. For now, I don’t know
whether or not the application would cost money. I see most of the revenue
coming from sponsorships and advertisement. The initial application will be
free (such a game developers release a free beta of their game). As I expand
the services and potential then I would look into having in-app purchases or subscription
plans.
What are your core
competencies?
From what I have seen, researched, and experienced, my application
combines many of the services that other applications or the Collier Company
lacks. The main service will be the subleasing service. Any apartment complex
will offer little to no help for resident who want to sublease into a place or sublease
their place. Companies tell residents to go to websites like Craigslist that to
many can be a sketchy website. This cause further frustration and discomfort as
the resident will feel helpless. My application will include this service and
many other such as a matchmaking quiz for resident moving in. The roommate matching
quiz that Collier Company offers is rather simple and ineffective. My quiz
will be effective and avoid residents discomfort as they will be roomed with a person
tailored to themselves.
